Environment Mac Pro 4,1 Snow Leopard 10.6.2 VBox 3.2.1 Ubuntu 8.04 LTS
How did I create the VM:
In MacOS using Disk Utility I created a 10GB partition.
In VBox created a VM
In MacOS Mounted ubuntu-8.04.4-desktop-i386.iso
Did the install of Ubuntu.
Did a Snapshot (#1)
Figured out how to set the boot order to boot from HD.
Installed the Guest Additions via help from this forum.
Did another Snapshot (#2)

Now I tried to delete Snapshot (1) and get this error message:
I do not understand.
TIA for your help and respect... Peter

This indicates that it is not the last of the chain in the snapshots.
If you truly want to delete the top snapshot you need to delete the last one first and work you way up to the top.
I suggest that you read the section 1.8. Snapshots in the VirtualBox Users Guide carefully and make sure that you understand what you are doing before you proceed.
Deleting the wrong thing can leave you with lost data or even a non-functional virtual machine.

Thanks for your kind help. In fact I went back and re-read that section of the manual, even though I have read the entire manual before beginning.
I do, and did, clearly understand the implications of deleting Snapshots. But right now I am just playing with things to get up to speed.
Even deleting Snapshot (2) and then trying to delete Snapshot(1) still gve me the same error.

I ended up creating a new machine using the existing HD. Also, interestingly, the Guest Additions problem did not occur.
It was visible in the Settings Storage dialogue and I attached it.

I was not able to delete the original machine because the Snapshot was still there.
So I quit VBox and deleted it from ~/Library/VirtualBox/Machines. Then when I started VBox again I got an error message and did the unregister.
That cleared it up.

So thank you for your guidance. It is appreciated.

respect....

Peter
