fatal could not read from boot medium [FIXED]

Post by csusbtech »

I just installed VirtualBox, configured the virtual machine how I wanted it, mounted the CD before I started the VM and ended up getting the error "FATAL: Could not read from the boot medium...". Well it seems that my issue was that I had two CD drives and I was selecting the wrong one as the secondary master (they were both named the same thing except one had '#1' concatenated on the end of it).Anyway I feel pretty foolish I didn't catch onto this earlier and since I didn't find anything on the internet pointing to this being the answer I thought I would make a post to let others know.

Another tip with the CD drives is to check and see how the drives are configured on the VM, if you have one virtual drive set at "Primary Slave" you will need to put the startup CD into the physical drive that the virtual drive points at, if you have the virtual dives set up as "Secondary Master" and "Secondary Slave" you will need to have your startup CD in the drive that the SM virtual drive points too.
