Unable to Restart Save State Session

Just had to replace motherboard that failed on my host machine and had one XP Pro session in the saved state - hosted on Win7-64 bit platform. When attempting to start the XP session get message

"failed to start virtual machine XPPro.
VM cannot start because the host interface 'Intel(R) 82566DC Gigabit Network Connection' does not exist
Result Code: VBOX_E_HOST_ERROR (0x80BB0008)
Component: Console
Interface: IConsole{6375231a-c17c-464b-92cb-ae9e128d71c3}"

When looking at the details in right hand start up panel the Network Adapter 1: PCnet-Fast III (Bridged adapter, Intel(R) 82566DC Gigabit Network Connection is present
Earlier before the hardware failure there was a 2nd network Adapter 2: that was exactly the same and using the bridged net config - this adapter was removed

Now unable to change any of the settings as the settings option is grayed out while the virtual machine is in the saved state - even double clicking the network adapters doesn't allow access
Can access be gained to this existing machine? or could a backup of the session be imported as a new machine?
Can any of the data being held in the saved machine be retrieved?
All other virtual machines are able to start normally

Any insights to this problem would be greatly appreciated
Thx

First thing to do is make a backup of the machine and any files that are tied to it.
Then you will need to abort out of the saved state. You will loose anything that you had not saved (open doc files that had not been saved, Etc..) but this should be minimal.
Then you should be able to start the guest.

From the main VBox program GUI right click on the VM that is stuck in the saved state and select discard. Once this has been discarded you should be able to boot.

Thank you very much for the recommendations to a newbe who was afraid to select discard without the confidence of an expert - was able to obtain the data that was required and can once again access the setup options

Still a few issues as the automatic change of the underlying host network card to an nVidia Nforce may be causing an issue - when boot XPPro normally get to the login screen and then machine auto reboots before entering password
have tried network adapter in all config options available as well as totally deselecting the network adapters, yet the machine auto reboots each time
worked successfully in XP safe made
also worked successfully in XP safe with networking and could see and write to host machine share (thanks again for my important data!!!)
even after running in safe mode, the normal bootup continues to autoreboot

feels like it is an XP issue being fussy with original hardware config? ... and may need to rebuild XP vMachine??

Thx for your prompt and much appreciated assistance

Try starting the Windows guest in safe mode. Then look at the device manager and see if there are any issues that need to be resolved.

yes had already explored the device manager for any issues but none were seen - even rescanned hardware for new devices
funny that it runs in safe mode and safe mode with networking but not standard mode
again, not a biggie if need to rebuild the XP vMachine

will check the VT-x/AMD-v mode in the new motherboard BIOS when able to reboot the machine as a 64bit vmachine of win7 gives that message that is unable to start - it then goes into a round and round reboot
believe this mobo supports virtualization but will pursue that avenue as well

again thx for the direction
