Shared folders on Windows 7 64bit host

Post by ahai »

Dear Sirs,

I am using Windows 7 64bit as host OS and Windows Server 2008 64bit as guest. I made a folder on host system to be shared with the guest and made all the required steps but unfortunately I failed to access it from the guest. I cannot see it in Network Places of the guest OS.

You need to tell use what the necessary steps were that you did for us to be able to actually help you.
Are you trying to use the shared folders of VirtualBox or normal network sharing?
What is the network mode? NAT, Bridged, Host-Only...Etc.

No network is used, the shared folder is on the hard disk of Windows 7 (host) and I want to access it from the Guest (Windows Server 2008) which is on the same hard disk.
My network settings is NAT.
What I did is:
1- make the folder on the hard disk.
2- Shared this folder and set full access rights for "everyone".
3-define this folder in the Shared Folder setting in VM.

I tried to access the folder from the Network of the guest VM as mentioned in the Help topic but I couldn't see it.

Thank you very much

The way you are talking about will never work. Just because the main OS (host) in on the same physical hard drive as the second OS (guest) does not mean they will ever see each other unless you setup full network sharing or use the VBox shared folders.

See section 4.7. Folder sharing of the VirtualBox Users Guide.
