Initial setup problems

I installed VB and everything went smooth. I set up a VM according to the manual, everything went smooth. At no point did it ask me to install Win XP, nor is it mentioned in the manual (that I can see). When I try to start the Win XP VM I get "Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908)". What did I do wrong?
