I am planning to convert 2 XP machines to VM...and give each one a keyboard and mouse...is this possible, how? can filters work this out? Thanks!

Theoretically it should be possible with separate USB keyboards and mice. But you would need to define the USB filters very carefully to not capture the host keyboard and mouse.
