hi,

i'm running VB 3.1.2 r56127 on a mac mini, 2,66MHZ/4GB RAM OS X 10.6.2 and had recently some problems to start my Win XP VM.

didn't use the Win XP VM for a while and so used still VB 3.0.6 as i started it up several weeks ago. but surprisingly the machine won't start telling me instead something about "failure to start usb subystem". as i hadn't done an update for a while, i updated to 3.1.2 r56127, started the Win XP VM and it booted sucsessfuly. fine, i thought. problem solved.

again i didn't use windows for a time, and as i tried to start it up some hours ago… guess what:

a window opened to tell me:

"Virtual machine 'win' has terminated unexpectedly during startup.

Fehlercode:
NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Komponente:
Machine
Interface:
IMachine {99404f50-dd10-40d3-889b-dd2f79f1e95e}"

another window opened:

"RTR3Init failed with rc=-1912 (rc=-1912)"

i tried to access the machine configuration, and yet another window opened:

"Kein Zugriff auf das USB-Subsystem.
Could not load the Host USB Proxy service (VERR_GENERAL_FAILURE)."

so…. i reinstalled VB 3.1.2 r56127, started XP and it booted again successfully. i repeated that several times and everything was fine. i logged in and out of my user account. and still XP started without problems.
then i restarted the mac, opened VB, started XP.. and got the same errors again. no XP :-(
reinstalled VB. XP works. restarted the mac. XP fails with the same errors :-(

any ideas?

xcuse my english. not my first language ;)

Check the following topic http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic. ... led#p84945, especially the part at the end about the VBoxDrv.kext.

works :-D

extension stays in place even after a host reboot, when you copy it manually into the extension folder.

XP now works fine.

thx :-)
