music not playing

Hello,
I have successfully installed an old game, I name Warlords III Darklords Rising, on Win 98 OS guest - my host being an XP SP 3. Despite the system running perfectly, and the game launching normally, I have no music once it gets past the opening credits, but only the FX sound. I can spot two problems:
1. inside Volume Control, the MIDI is desactivated, however in System architecture it is said the drivers are perfectly running for the sound controllers - but the music isn't in MIDI format, so I guess this doesn't have much to do with
2. as I try to play the music tracks from the CD, with CD player, it is not recognized as a valid music CD, however this isn't the case on a normal PC using Win 98 CD player.
I've tried some drivers on the net, but they appeared to be older than those already present on the guest: mcicda.drv and mcisqa.drv (don't know if it's the right name; anyway, it is for the MIDI sampler). Maybe I need to install a better virtual soundcard ? or a better virtual cd reader ?
As I've said, the game runs fine. Except that without music, it looses much.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
