Cannot find guest additions file

I must be exceedingly stupid - I've read the userguide, chapter 4 "Guest Additions", but can't find the required iso file!

I running MacOS X 10.6.1 on a Mac Pro system. I installed VirtualBox 3.1.2 today - a clean install as I have never used VirtualBox before. I also downloaded Ubuntu 9.10 and burned the file to CD.
I have created a box for Ubuntu and it appears to have installed O.K.

Now I want to install the guest additions. The userguide says: "The VirtualBox Guest Additions for all supported guest operating systems are provided as a single CD-ROM image file which is called VBoxGuestAdditions.iso. This image file is located in the installation directory of VirtualBox"

I cannot find a file with this name anywhere on my system. Where is the installation directory of VirtualBox? Do I need to download this file from somewhere?

Thanks for any help or pointers.

Jeff

Well Jeff you should be able to click on the device tab at the top left of the guests window and then click on install guest additions.
It will then mount the additions and you can install it from there.

Thanks for the response but I don't have a Device tab that I can see. Is this in the VirtualBox application running on the Mac or part of the Ubuntu window?

I have read other response to similar questions and people keep mentioning the "Device" tab but I cannot see this anywhere!

Humm, I don't have a MAC at the moment but when you start the guest you should have a window view of it and at the top left there should be a Machine, Device, and Help.
If not then you might be able to press the host key + home key to see the VBox menu. Then in the devices section there should be install guest additions.

That's what I've been assuming from reading other posts but my Ubuntu window shows (from the top left): Applications Places System

I could attach a screen shot showing the window if it helps.

I tried pressing the host key + home key and nothing obvious happened.

You got me. How are you starting the guest? Maybe a screen shot will help.
The Applications Places System is part of Ubuntu and not the VB window.

Thanks for the helpful link. It's still confusing though as he says: "just click on the devices menu" - but all the screenshots show the same window that I see with no Devices menu. Is this hidden somewhere?
Also noticed that he was using an older version of VirtualBox, 1.6.2. Is this version still available anywhere?

I tried attaching a screenshot to a posting earlier but it didn't go through. Maybe I'll upload it to flickr and post the link.

He also mentions pressing the left cmd button. What does that give you?

I think I've just found the menu. You need to go to the Ubuntu window first, then come out of it and the VirtualBox menus change and the Devices menu appears.

Maybe this should be made clearer in the userguide!
