Cursor jumpy on XP

Post by spanish yank »

hi

when in xp, the cursor is jumpy as if not enough ram & programs are slow.

installed latest vbox 3.1.2 on mac leopard 10.5.8 host, guest XP. during installation when asked about the ram i wanted to allocate to xp, it was set at 192 ( ?¿? ) & i bumped it up to 256. when running xp, things seem to be slow, have to shut off all running programs in mac to get xp to run decent. is it enough ram, should i allocate more & if so, how?¿?¿?¿ or is there another solution to speed xp up??¿¿¿

macbook leopard 10.5.8
proc - 2.1 ghz intel 2 duo
mem - 2 gb 667 mh2 ddr2 sdram
hd - 120 gb

vbox release 3.1.2
guest add - 3.1.0

Sounds to me like the host is running too many apps for the amount of memory you have.
XP should work fair with 256 MB RAM. You may need to see what the actual amount of available memory you actually have is.
You should be able to look at the VBox guest log file to see what is being reported as available.
Also while it is not needed for the mouse to actually work it may smooth down if you install the guest additions (in the guest)

hi

thxs perrg for your response. i bumped the alocated ram to xp to 512 which seemed to smooth things out. even thou i like the concept of running xp & mac at the same time, the xp window is to small for my liking. even in full screen. i have a small 13 in. screen macbook. so will try boot camp & see how i like that.

cheers

If the window is too small then you need to install the guest additions (in the guest) then you will have mouse integration and full screen support for the guest.
