cross-host compatibility of VMs

I'm somewhat new to VB, but I've successfully gotten my win7 x86 vm working on my Snow Leopard host (mac mini 2.0GHz) with all the fancy USB periphs working (webcam, smartcard etc.)

However I am completely unsuccessfully at getting the above vm to work on other VB hosts (all 3.1.2). I've tried copying the VDI file over to another win7x64 PC and a w2k3 PC.

Each time I try to run the VDI in VB on the windows machines, I get the Sun splash screen then a black window. It never gets past the black window.

Has anyone had success in moving a VM image to another host OS? Is there any trick to it?

Thanks in advance,
Laotzu

The real trick is the settings. You need to make sure that they are the same. You can use the export function of VBox which should help but you still need to make sure that the settings are the same.

to make things easy you can just use File->"Import/Export" OVF capability of VBox
