Windows 3.1 installation

Post by Helixal »

When I try to install Windows 3.1 I've gotten two different error messages on the windows 3.1 black screen. When I put the Disk 1 (boot disk) in the A drive these are the messages:

Non-system disk or disk error replace and press any key when ready
or
FATAL no bootable medium found system halted

what should I do next?

3.1 did not come with a bootable disk(unless it was packed with a dos install disk-set), you need to install dos 5 or 6.22, from there on run setup from the 3.1 install disk.

I would appreciate the steps needed to get win 3.1 installed. Do I first create a dos 5 virtual machine or a win 3.1 machine?

Read the post before, that answers all questions.

Again: This has nothong to do with VBOX. Search a Windows 3.11 Howto or something else in the WEB to get Infos about the approach.

You will have to first install DOS on the virtual machine. Once DOS is installed you can install Windows 3.1.
