Windows xp OpenGL crash

Having a problem with direct3d and Windows xp.. I am new to Virtual Box and have already installed the guest additions in safe mode and win3d3 program.. When I try and run a game (the main reason I installed virtual box) it complains about not having direct3d.. When I run dxdiag it crashes with the file being opengl32.dll.. The host is a i7 950 8GB ram and HD 4870.. Thanks in advance for any help given..
