MTU problems with bridged network on Mac host

It seems to be the same problem seen in VB2 http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/3783. On a CentOS 5.4 guest I was able to correct the problem by changing the emulated NICs from Am79C973 to 82540EM, but my Win2008 guest is still having trouble after I changed the NIC to 82545EM (Win 2008 doesn't recognize the 82540EM). This is running under Snow Leopard 10.6.2 server on an Intel Xserve. Has anybody else seen similar problems?
