Connecting with the outside world/computer

This thing is being a dingleberry. >.>
Basically, it's something like this. The other day I was able to connect to the internet perfectly via my virtual machine (as in, it just connected to my wireless by default). Now, it refuses to build an internet connection, even if I plug in an ethernet cable (I could understand if it didn't take my Wireless, but LAN?). Same thing with shared folders and similar network connections-it refuses to connect (says something about a permissions error). I believe this started directly after I installed the guest additions.
Because I never figured out how to connect this thing to my USB (another thing I'd love to learn how to do >.>), this situation means the VM is totally worthless to me. Please help?
