How to create Image of My applications?

Post by bikkie »

Hello All,

I am new to Virtual Box. My host application is windows XP onwhich I have installed virtual box and one instance of windows 7.
My question is can I make images of my software application and other software applications like Tomcat, glassfish, mysql and keep it separately so that I can install it on my virtual machine instance (Windows 7) whenever is required?

Thanks in advance.

Not unless you are talking about installing them. Windows is really fussy about that.

.
If you want to move an application from one Windwoes to another, you need it to be the same version family of windwoes or your chances of success will be little to none. Further to that, you need to have a program installed prior to the initial install of the application to keep track of what registry entries were made by the application install so you can manually enter them on the "other" windwoes. Further to further to that, your tracking program will need to tell you what files were put in the windows\system32 folder so you can manually copy them to the "other" windwoes. Of course a manual copy of the applications files from the folder (usually in program files) it was installed in will be necessary. Shouldn't take any more than an hour for each application.

Perhaps doing a fresh install of the application on the "new" windwoes would be easier.

That "Windwoes" stuff may have been mildly amusing the first time (maybe), but now it's simply irritating. Please cut it out.

I think what mpack was getting at is we try to adhere to a certain level of professionalism here. While it may be amusing bashing operating systems sometimes it adds nothing to the actual content of the reply, while showing a lack of the mentioned professionalism. It is of course you decision but it would be nice if you called Windows by its registered trade marked name instead.

Amusement is not the motivation, it's disdain. For the company, but far more so the man.

Having said that, I can accept what you say, and how you say it.
