List of app`s that work with WinXP as guest OS

Post by creation »

First off all my congrat`s to the team that created this software is really handy if you don`t want to spend time with dual-booting. I have browsed the pages and seen a few games that work under Virtual Box with windows XP as guest OS. This topic is my proposal to all of you users that have installed Windows XP using Virtual Box and especially those that have trouble with wine or cedega to create a list of applications (all types not just games) that work.

Hope to see even games for the Need for speed series working using Virtual Box :)

To break the ice i will start first with two games tested with earlier versions of VB and worked fine to me, even with bots : Urban Terror and Open Arena (with mouse integration disabled of course).
Regarding the software i can say that: firefox 3.5, sopcast(latest version), dvdsanta, convertXtoDVD and yahoo messenger version 8 work pretty fine.

I hope that others help this topic to become a big list of working applications and i hope that this is a useful proposal

PS: VB = Virtual Box ;)

Impossible - the list would be nearly infinite. Almost every Windows application ever written works under XP under VirtualBox. It's quicker to summarise the types of application that don't run, which are those that must talk to specific real hardware, device drivers not designed for XP or VBox, and some multimedia applications or games (perhaps they just don't run well)

Bear in mind that XP in VirtualBox is not a simulation, it really is XP, so of course it can do anything XP can do. It's only the virtual hardware that might create limitations (and those are being reduced with each new VBox major version).

May be, but do you want to see a "nearly infinite" number of topics complaining about issues with different programs? Or just one topic talking about programs that really work and thus helpings users to know what software or game is really stable under VB when Windows XP is the guest OS?

Other tested programs: the browser opera and the tvu player

PS; as is firefox , IE or opera i`ve seen that java app`s may slow down the application a bit .

Your observation does not make the impossible become possible, so in fact it makes no difference what I would prefer to see. In any case the list of incompatible applications is not infinite: as I've already mentioned, they fall into a fairly small number of known app categories.

Well if that`s the problem for you, then i suggest starting a new topic, that will hold a list of app`s that have issues with VB that has a windows xp guest OS and leave others that want to contribute to the list to write replies in this topic.

Remember, if you read carefully my first post is it a proposal so you can either write app`s that work or you may ignore this topic either way you chose, it makes no difference to me ;)

I'll go with the latter idea.

Incidentally, please post any future suggestions in the "Suggestions" forum.
