osx 10.6.2 host, xp guest - spawning session problem

i encounter the following problems with virtual box 3.1.2 on mac osx 10.6.2 host and windows xp pro sp2 guest on my MB:
1) if i choose to save the status of the virtual machine and want to resume later on without restarting mac os and without ending vbox-process it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. the behavior seems to be totally random, i can't reproduce any failure.
2) also choosing to save the status of the virtual machine and restarting vbox or even rebooting osx, spawning session never works.
can anybody help?
