I keep getting this error trying to create shared folder?

I have already installed the guest additions, but every time I go into Device>shared folders and add the folder path and name under the machine folder I keep getting this error over and over:

Failed to create the shared folder sharedfolder (pointing to C:\sharedfolder) for the virtual machine "my computer name".

Shared folder path 'C:\sharedfolder' is not absolute.

Can anyone help explain this to me? I'm a Virtualbox noob.

The name of the share can not contain any characters, spaces, and should not have caps.
For the location of the share do not type it in yourself, use the drill down menu to locate the folder.

I'm using Parallels now, but I remember clicking on the drill down menu, but my C drive was not an available option. Why is this? Do I have to have more than one hard drive for this to work? I only have one hard drive.

No you do not need more than one hard drive on the host. You can map the entire hard drive by putting C:\ in the location but the name can not contain any of the previously mentioned things. Just call it c or cdrive no spaces, characters or caps. But if you are using a MAC as your profile states then do you really have a C:\ drive?
