cant run games ..., cd not recognised

just new to virtual box
installed XP with 3M ram under windows 7 host.
XP is working fine - however when i install a game for my son - world of ward craft in installs ok, but when you run the game it says "please verify that xxx disc is in the CD rome drive "
Game wont recognise the virtual CD rom as 'real'.
has any one else had similar problems and how do i fix it.
I have installed the extensions in the host operating system (but but not in the XP build).
Any one know what to do next ? this failed on the windows 7 virtual build also (different game - but same problem)
how do you get the games to recognise the cd rom?
