vboxmanage clonehd

I have a Ubuntu 9.10 Server 64 bit running as a vm under Windows Server 2003 64 host OS. I did a vboxmanage clonehd and then copied the cloned harddisk to my Mac Book Pro. I configure a new vm and mapped the vdi file but the vm won't boot. The last line I see is "error: no such disk" before the screen clears. I'm using version 3.1.2 on both host OS boxes. Any ideas as to what I might have done incorrectly?

Thanks.

Try it without cloning. Copy the existing vdi file 1:1 to the MAC. And please check the virtual hardware old/new guest. Often boot problems result from different controllers (ide, sata, scsi).

Stefan:

I did as you suggested by copying the vdi file straight from the Windows Server 2003 box to my Mac but no dice. Same message. I'm thinking it has to do with grub2 somehow but can't understand why when the whole file has been shipped over.
