yes, dxdiag works perfect fine on my host.
please see below: I picked some dxdiag information.
But, I never succeeded in making D3D of VB working on my guest (windows xp or windows 2003 server).
I installed D3D feature of VB in safemode. I enabled 3D acceleration of VB.
it makes no difference: dxdiag crashes!
