Neverused VB and have a question

Post by Goddard »

I was wondering how safe Virtual Box was. I plan on doing some testing of random software out in the wild Internet and I wanted to know if I do stumble upon malicious software will this effect my main OS? What kind of security measures can I take to setup a work space such as this?

Hey Stefan, are you sure about that, one thousand topics? :D

Goddard, VirtualBox is secure enough. The operating system/s you run as host and guest are as secure as they are in their native state.

A good way to protect your guest OS is to do regular snapshots so you can revert back if the worst happens. Keeping them in the default directory seems to be good policy.

Copying the .vdi file at regular intervals can be advantageous as well.

Thanks constant very informative.

Edit : Not sure if you know this, but I tried going to your website and it didn't show up. You probably know, but just thought I'd let you know.

Yeah I know about the website, it got hacked because I was using a very old cms, and to be safest I just deleted the lot.

I'm in the process of rebuilding it with Joomla. It should be back soon. Thanks.
