Mount external harddisk to the virtual machine

I am running the VM under a Mac OS Snow Leopard. I have an external hard disk formatted as ext3 (linux format). Therefore, the Mac can not recognize the disk, but it do listed the hard disk in the Disk Utility. I, therefore, setup a Linux Federal 12 in the VM. But the Linux do not recognize the disk and even don't know its existence. In the right bottom corner of the VM window, when I click the 'USB connection button', it listed many device of my Mac (webcam, trackpad ...) as well as the hard disk. But the hard disk is in gray font, so, I can not connect it. Why and how to fix it?

http://sourceforge.net/projects/ext2fsx/

Possably another way: ext2/3 mount under MacOS and use Shared Folders.

Thank you, but most users comment that sourceforge software do not work in Snow Leopard. Besides, I have tried many software that claimed to be able to mount ext3 to Mac OS, but I still failed to found one that work in Snow Leopard.
