IE 8 Issues running on Windows 7
Okay. I bit the bullet and bought Windows 7 to install on my VirtualBox on Mac OS 10.6.2. I did this because there's a particular website that I use that will only run on IE7 and IE8. No other browser will work.
The problem is that the popup windows the site generates won't work. They pop up and then disappear. I can't figure out what's causing this issue. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Re: IE 8 Issues running on Windows 7
I didn't think that's what I was doing. How is asking a question in a VirtualBox forum doing that? Sort of a bizarre response to the question.Dont expect hardware Manufacturers to solve your Software Problems.
I don't think it could be characterized as a Windows problem if it works as it's supposed to on a PC that has Windows 7 installed ( which it does ). This seems to be a situation peculiar to Windows 7 running on VirtualBox.
I was hoping someone might have insight into this. It seems to be an issue with Active X or some other add on. Would greatly appreciate input if anyone is aware of this issue.

That would be more helpful if you attach log from your vm and put example of the problem URL.brupnow wrote:I was hoping someone might have insight into this. here is the problem site: www2.advisorchannel.com/ac/channel
I'm not sure if the log will somehow expose my password to this site so I don't want to attach.

Re: IE 8 Issues running on Windows 7
I would look at the settings in the security portion of IE. ActiveX and popups are controlled there.
Also it may be that they check for the IP address and if you are using NAT it could confuse the issue.
If this is the case then you should try bridged mode. I have (rarely) run across some secure sites that refused to work properly in a virtual environment and would only work on the host side, but it is not common. Firewalls can also cause this to happen (again in rare cases) if the site is expecting a certain reply as well as settings for cookies.

Re: IE 8 Issues running on Windows 7
Perry,
Thanks for that input. I have taken a look at the security settings and firewall as well. Can't figure out any problems with either ( doesn't mean there isn't one ).
What is bridged mode? Will try that once I know what it means.

If you have a router you can set up the guest network to use Bridged mode. That will allow you to run the guest the same as you run the host.

Re: IE 8 Issues running on Windows 7
I printed out the manual for Virtualbox to try and understand what bridged mode means. I don't know. What I'm going to try is to uninstall everything and start again in 32 bit mode to see if that works. How do I uninstall and remove the Virtual drives so that I can start over? Thanks

Re: IE 8 Issues running on Windows 7
You don't need to uninstall everything. If you want to try the 32 bit version of Win 7 just install it as a new install.
If it works for you then you know that you need to delete the 64 bit version of Win 7 (although I can not see why it would be different).
If you really want to remove the VMs you simply right click on it (when it is not running) and select delete.
Then open the VBox media manager and remove it from there. select delete when asked.

Re: IE 8 Issues running on Windows 7
I've done the right click delete but it seems that the partitions I created still exist. How can I remove those?

That would be the second line
"Then open the VBox media manager and remove it from there. select delete when asked."

Re: IE 8 Issues running on Windows 7
I redid everything and came up with the same issue. This error seems to keep the site from functioning correctly : "Internet Explorer prevented from installing an ActiveX Control". When I click on the error and select 'Install Active X for all users", it logs me out of the site and when I log back in, the Active X is still blocked. I've tried putting this site under the trusted list and feel like I've tried everything. Any other thoughts?

Re: IE 8 Issues running on Windows 7
It might be a popup blocker in IE8 causing this.
You might need to contact the tech support of the site/service to help.
I really don't know anything that would prevent this native to VBox. It is browser specific as far as I know.
