Install went great, now "Start" greyed out

VirtualBox 3.1.2 on OS X 10.6.2 host, Win7 Ultimate guest.

I installed a brand new VB 3.1.2 (i.e. it wasn't an upgrade, it was a new VB install) on my brand new iMac running Snow Leopard 10.6.2 today. I took all the defaults for the VB install. I then installed Windows 7 Ultimate (32-bit) on the VM. Both the VB installation and the subsequent Win7 installation, including bridged networking, went without a hitch. Activated Windows, all was well.

I then installed Guest Additions, which also went without a problem.

I then looked around a couple of menus, and shutdown Windows. I did not install any Windows applications, etc. Windows shutdown went without a problem and/or error.

But now, the VB window shows the VM as being powered off, but the Settings, Start, and Discard buttons are all greyed out. IOW, I can't re-start the VM. The VM disk is still there, owned by me, I have rw rights to it, etc. The Details tab on the VB window show everything as I set it up. So, VB sees the VM, it just won't allow me to even try to start it.

This is surely some stupid error on my part, but I can't figure out what. I've quit VB two or three times and re-started it, same results: greyed out Settings and Start buttons, so I can't re-start the VM.

I looked through the logs and don't see any errors; the last line says "Changing the VM state from 'DESTROYING' to 'TERMINATED'. I looked the troubleshooting section of the manual, didn't see anything related. I looked through the first page or so of the forum, didn't see any related issues.

What do I need to do to get VB to allow me to re-start this VM?

Thanks!
