VirtualBox 3.1.0 - Install from filesystem?

New user VirtualBox 3.1.0 ( host Intel MAC OS X 10.5.8 ), is there any way to install VM from my Unix filesystem vice from DVD or Floppies? Other VirtualBox users tell me they can install from their native filesystem without burning a CD/DVD.
