All,
There have been a number of problems with USB support in Win7x64 which "may" have been fixed in Vbox 3.1.2. However I still cannot access my ViaMichelin satnav via USB.
Vbox 3.1.2 and Guest additions updated. Host is Win7 64bit Home Premium, guest is XP SP3.
The device is identifed as "captured" but whenever I try to connect the attached error is shown, indicating that the device is "busy with a previous request"
I have tried creating a USB filter for the device, prior to starting the VM, but the error remains the same.
There are no drivers for the device in Win7 (hence the need for the Vbox VM!), could this be the problem?
Any suggestions gratefully received
Thanks
Ron

Re: Win7 64bit USB problems
I had similar problem, Win 74 64 bit host, XP SP3 guest. I checked device manager on guest and there was an exclamation mark against USB and it was reporting no driver loaded. I updated driver and it found driver automatically, reported it was working and since then USB has been fine. I have used USB Memory Stick and Canon Printer on USB since.

Re: Win7 64bit USB problems
I have exactly the same problem on the same host/guest configuration.
I've tried numerous suggestions from this forum but none worked. This is the only thing that keeps me from using VirtualBox now and it is critical that I get it working.
Any help appreciated please!
Thanks,
Werner

Win7 64 bit/XP 32 bit USB problems
Upon installing Service Pack 1 to Windows XP Pro 32 bit guest (Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit host, build 7600), USB drives were accessible to the guest for the first time since installation of VirtualBox a few days ago. I am running a Dell Inspiron 546 mini-tower with an AMD Phenom 9650 quad-core 2.3 GHz processor and 4GB of DRAM. The Virtual Box version is 3.1.2 running from an image file.
Prior to installing Service Pack 1, crashing of Windows XP Pro upon attempted installation of USB devices was not uncommon. Conversely, the blue screen of death was never encountered. Following installation of Service Pack 1, updating of the USB driver using Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager finally resulted in resolution of the error condition for the USB controllers. Prior to Service Pack 1 installation, attempts at USB driver update were met by inability of XP Pro to locate the required drivers. USB drive and flash drive access continued through the current Windows update (Service Pack 2, Build 2600). Since some users with Service Pack 3 report USB drive access issues, I am tempted to speculate that the problem may reside with Service Pack 3 (this is as yet a wild guess on my part). Since I'm not a believer in the ultimate value of Service Pack 3, I'll leave it to someone else to test USB drive access beyond Service Pack 2.

Re: Win7 64bit USB problems
Hi!
I have the same host and guest versions, and the same error message. The only difference is that i was trying to connect a nokia phone through nokia data suit. Firt i shut down the virtualmachine, in the usb settings turned off completely the usb controllel. Boot up and shut down the guest, then enable the usb contoller again but disable the EHCI controller this time. Boot up the guest again and this time it worked.
Hope it helps.

Re: Win7 64bit USB problems
I have identical problem for the very beginning of my using VirtualBox on Windows host. I appears on Windows XP, Windows 7 32 and 64 bit hosts. I haven't this problem on linux hosts. The solution makes me crazy for very long time:
1. Run VirtualBox and try to catch your USB device.
At that moment host system tries to install VirtualBox USB driver. On Windows 7 (I don't remember if on XP too) near taskbar message box appears with information that driver couldn't be installed because device was disconnected. In fact driver was properly installed. You can see in VirtualBox that USB device wasn't caught. If you try to catch it again you can see error. Similar error papers if you will catch device which is used with different virtual machine.
2. Disconnect USB device. Simply remove it form USB port.
3. Stop all virtual machines and close VirtualBox window.
Wait for some time because finishing application and releasing resources takes VirtualBox a few seconds. You can check in task manager if VBoxSVC.exe still exist. Sometimes, especially on Windows XP host, it is required to kill/end this process manually.
4. Now you can connect your device to USB port, run VirtualBox and start using it.
Sometimes it is required to remove all USB devices which you are using in all virtual machines. This procedure have to be repeated every time you install new version of VirtualBox.
I hope it helps you...
