Hello, I was wondering if anyone has written a thread for people who run virtualbox on MacBook Pro's that have all the virtualbox settings optimized for performance running the latest version of virtualbox on Mac OS X (10.6.x)? I was also wondering if anyone has written a thread on setting up a guest OS (Windows XP) on a MacBook Pro that uses the best drivers (performance) in Windows XP. I currently have a MacBook Pro 3,1 (Core 2 Duo, Geforce 8600M GT) and was wondering what are the best drivers to use if I am running Windows XP SP3 as a guest OS under Mac OS X (10.6.x).
When I first setup and installed virtualbox I had the hard drive settings for the Windows XP guest OS as IDE, and then I realized I could setup the hard drive as a SATA, needless to say XP did not like me switching the settings from IDE to SATA, but after fiddling around with things I was able to get XP running with SATA. If anyone is running any custom drivers in their guest OS or has optimized settings for Windows XP guest OS for virtualbox I would like to know how you have things configured. I heard something about people giving virtualbox RAW read/write to their hard drive to speed things up, but I have no idea how this done, and if RAW read/write is set does this mean the partition can not be resized using gparted live CD?
cheers

Re: MacBook Pro Optimized Settings Optimized Drivers Guest OS XP
I wish I could tell you, but I'm actually having problems with mine, and I'm running a near identical setup to yours. I got a macbook pro, running Mac OS 10.5.8 host, winxp sp3 guest. I have the same graphics card, and I can't get direct X to recognize that I have 3d Acceleration, so I can't play any games on it as of yet. I'm looking for drivers that I can use, but every single one I've downloaded has simply said "we couldn't find any drivers compatible with your hardware" anybody know how to fix this?

DirectX support isn’t 100% in VirtualBox yet. Since the VM doesn’t talk directly to the video card, and Mac OS X doesn’t have DirectX, you’re much better off using Boot Camp or CrossOver Games for gaming.
