USB device not initiated [solution]

I have WinXP on a MacOS X host. Also tried Win7 and had same behavior.
I use USB card reader from Gemalto http://support.gemalto.com/.
Device installed OK and was using it. However, occasionally windows device driver failed to initialize and a pop up came up saying that USB device is not recognized and I could not use it. USB key was on a device list and had no errors attached to it, however it was named "Unknown USB device".
Somehow I figure it out, that If I don't move the mouse (MacBook's built in touch pad) on a boot up and plug the device before I do any kind of mouse movement, USB device is recognized and works fine. After the device is initialized by the system I can use mouse and USB key simultaneously with no problem.
