my almost succesful network settings for BT Home hub in UK

Hi all,

I recently swapped my UK ISP from Zen to BT (various reasons we won't go into...)

I was using a D-Link ADSL router, but BT provide the so called Home Hub, so i'm using that now.

So, on change over, I experienced the following:

XP standalone box worked fine
OSX standalone box worked fine
XP in VirtualBox on the OSX host had issues as follows:

Using Intel Pro/1000 T Server on Bridged Adapter (which always worked with the d-link router and ZEN)
could access ONLY the bt.com web pages - all others failed. Even changing the routers firewall to OFF ( eek!) didnt solve this.

Playing around I found that a change to NAT rather than bridged adapter was the only way I could get full internet access on the XP client.

HOWEVER...
I cant see my networked printers, and I cant use a specific application (Actinic Catalog with Mole End Automation) that is the reason for me running VB.

So, unless someone knows what to do....

Its back to the D-Link, and previous settings (which work fine). ho hum.

I guess I could have tried to add VirtualBox into the application sharing area, but I really don't know how to go about that. If you have done it successfully, let us know!

Hope this is of some use to others.

ANDY

Hi Andy,

I'm a relative newcomer to Virtualbox (I'm a Parallels refugee) but had some similar issues when first setting up my guest. I discovered that the Networking pane allows up to 4 adapters and I ended up setting up more than one so that I could access 1) printers on the home network, 2) access the world wide web, and 3) enable 2-way file sharing. For me, I used 1) host only, 2) NAT and 3) Bridged. This may be overkill, and there are likely easier/more intelligent ways to do this, but this was the solution that I found first, so this is what I use.

Hope this helps.
