Check to be sure that you are installing this in the guest.
Also you may need to unmount the CD/DVD in the guest and then select install guest additions to see the right version if you did not unmount the original guest additions first.

Re: Problem to install Guset additions on Windows XP
Did you try uninstalling the previous version of VirtualBox before installing the new one?
Others have mentioned that they had to uninstall the older version to be able to use the new version properly.
You should not loose your settings or your VMs but I always tell everyone to backup first.

yes, i removed the rpm and old guest additions from the guest as well. and then installed 3.1.0 with yum.
i tried to download from virtualbox site directly but download stuck at 46%.

Well I don't know what to tell you. It works fine for me. I guess that the version from the repo could be corrupt or something may be missing, but since I don't use them from the repo I can not be sure. I would try to get the one from virtualbox.org and see if it fixes the problem. I know you say it does not download for you but this too is strange. Give it another try. Maybe it was just under load. Make sure that you have adequate disk space to download and install.

Re: Problem to install Guset additions on Windows XP
I downloaded the file from virtualbox.org and got same problem.
however i found page that helped me on the web
http://forums.techguy.org/windows-xp/23 ... uring.html
according to this page, RunOnce key might be missing at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
It was actually missing on my machine and i created it and re run the Guest Additions installation.
Now it seems to be working ok
thanks for your time
