PXE Network Bootstrap Program download is extremely slow.

Post by Tobbi75 »

The NBP tftp server is a virtual Windows 2008 server running Windows Deployment Services.

The PXE client downloading the NBP package is the second virtual machine. The NBP download takes forever. When the NBP is successfully started, the performance is acceptably fast, roughly 5 times faster than the NBP download, according to the WDS console.

Has anyone come across similar problems?

Are there some host-only network fine-tuning options one can advise?

I concur.

I run the tftpd-hpa server from openbsd-inetd on Ubuntu server and get horrid downloads of boot strap files during the initial PXE stages. Once loaded, however, they operate at normal speed.

This is using bridged networking with vbox 3.1.2 on my host which has GB ethernet. The host loads the PXE boot files in about 1/10th the time it takes a guest (regardless of how I configure it).

Any ideas?

Unfortunately, I am observing exactly the same problem here.

PXE-Networkboot via a host's bridged network interface from the company's tftp server.
It doesn't make a difference which network adapter I configure for the guest.
Version in use is 3.1.2.

Anybody???
