No bootable medium found!

Hi all,

On a my host VB(PUEL, version 3.10) I am trying to install another XP to my guest VB with my laptop(with no CD/DVD drive but a USB DVD drive), it always displays "No bootable medium found! System halted" after the XP installation disc (bootable) is in place.

My USB disc drive can be displayed in the guest machine but the boot order under Settings -> System -> Motherboard contains only FLOPPY, CD/DVD ROM and Harddisk, but my USB DVD drive is not shown. Is this the reason I cannot boot and install my disc with USB disc drive for OS installation? Is so, could you guys shed me some lights on how to solve this?

Many thanks..

Make an Image of the DVD and boot via Image (ISO).

Hi stefan.becker,

My query is that my XP installation CD disc is already bootable, so does it make any difference to make a ISO image to boot? Am I right in saying there is an issue to boot from my USB DVD/CD drive?

Thanks in advance,
supersanyee

Normally not.

But many users reported this helps. Have a try.

Yes. VirtualBox does not support booting from USB CD/DVD drives.
