Hello,
the same issue occurs when I changed the default snaps. locations (from C: to E:) - problems with restoring the snaps. after the main interface was closed. Still able to restore if I modify xml at (e.g.):
<Snapshots>
<Snapshot uuid="{...}" name="Snapshot 2" timeStamp="..." stateFile=%PATH_TO_SAV_FILE%> (bold text added)

I've been reading this forum on an almost daily basis since the problem was first noticed (i first had the problem when 'upgrading' to 3.1.x from 3.0) but for a long time thought it was something I was doing wrong.
Why is there such a delay in fixing such a simple and obvious bug? has development ceased? do I need to go back to the dark ages (microsoft or VMWare)?
There are many confirmed sightings and probably many more people affected that have not put messages here.
Come on Oracle, this is a bad show......

I'm glad that I found this topic that describes exactly what is happening to me.
There was many releases for 3.1.x since the bug was notified by mcnaz, and none seems to have resolved the problem. I found it dificult to understand, because is a bug that breaks a principal function of the product... how sad.
Is very funny to see how many in this thread joined the forum explicitly to talk about this (me included). Maybe it's a tactic to engage users (and it is working).
Hope this is fixed in the next release.
Regards.

The only action it'll get is to being marked as duplicate of this one:
http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/5656.
Althoug is a different host/guest OS, the bug is not related to that.
Maybe the insistence gets some action
