I half expect someone to pop up with a URL that I haven't been able to find yet, but I'd like to know if there is any technical documentation around regarding the Guest Additions to VirtualBox. Stuff that will explain magic codes like "80EECAFE" and describe the secret protocol handshakes and the like. I did eventually find the source code to Guest Additions (after searching for a while for d:\tinderbox\add-3.0) but it would help trying to read the source if I had a basic understanding of what it was trying to accomplish.
I'm starting to get the impression that there is a master driver or service named "VirtualBox" whose job is to purely communicate with the hypervisor, and a number of "child drivers" whose only communication pathway is through the master driver. Is there a writeup on how the master driver communicates with VirtualBox, a list of child drivers or services and what each one does, etc? Or is it just me staring at the source for a good long while until lightbulbs start lighting up?
Where can I find technical docs about Guest Additions?
