booting raw-disk images (made with dd) e.g. of a WXP-paritio

Post by john99 »

Hello,

does VirtualBox support booting raw-disk images (made with dd) e.g. of a WXP-parition?

Thank's a lot for any feedback!

No, only VDI or partial VMDK.

Does "VBoxManage convertdd" import partitions or disks?

If not disks, then you could write a script to extract the individual partitions from your disk image and then import them into VB.

Thank's for the feedback. I am not sure if I do fully understand it, but it gives me the impression that it's possible to boot raw-disk images (made with dd) e.g. of a WXP-parition but not of a whole disk.

Is that the case?

At the very least, with a little work, you can IMPORT your raw disk images. You will not be able to boot from a the original raw disk image.
