Re: Win 7 x64 host - everything freezes after connecting USB dev
It isn't solved for me. I'm unsing a Win 7 x86_64 host and Mandriva 2010.0 x86_64 guest (VirtualBox 3.1.2).
I didn't update, it's a fresh installed system. The vm is installed on a real harddrive-partition (So I have to start it as a administrator).
Connecting a USB-device to the vm for the first time ends in a warning-message, that the driver can't be installed. After restarting the host-os the device can be connected. Now the Guest-os will lock up directly or at least after a few minutes + the USB-drive seems to be really slow.
After the crash VirtualBox uses mutch CPU-time, but the Host doesn't lock up. The Guest runs fine when no USB-device is connected.

Re: Win 7 x64 host - everything freezes after connecting USB dev
When does this get solved. It is really annoying.
I'm on a win7 64bit host and run a Ubuntu 9.04 32 bit guest.
I run Vbox 3.1.4.r57640

Re: Win 7 x64 host - everything freezes after connecting USB dev
I have to add, I only get a freeze, if I put in the usb stick. If the stick is already in my pc and then I boot up the Vm I can use the stick without a freeze

Re: Win 7 x64 host - everything freezes after connecting USB dev
after giving up on windows 7 64 bit I reverted back to windows xp in 3.2.4 Virtualbox and I am having the same problems. Whenever I connect a USB device, windows xp (guest os) locks up. If I uncheck the usb device from VBox's USB Devices, everything comes back in XP. This is extremely frustrating. I cannot use any USB devices in Virtualbox. Seriously, we all know the product is free and are grateful for the efforts, but this should be a higher priority on the bug list. Exactly what are users to do without USB today?

Re: Win 7 x64 host - everything freezes after connecting USB dev
I to am having this problem but it extends further. Even though I have setup the specific USB setting for a device, the guest OS (XP) shows there are no devices available. I can use that USB device on the host OS just fine. This actually happens for all USB devices on any guest OS. It always shows there are no USB devices available even thought they work on the host and are configued in the control panel of virtualbox.

Re: Win 7 x64 host - everything freezes after connecting USB dev
I am having very similar problem with 2008 R2 Server host and XP/Linux guests with the recent 3.2.6 release, though these issues were not persistent in previous releases as far back as 3.1.6-3.2.4 but this build seems to have some sort of regression?
When configuring the machine with a filter for an external usb hard drive and booting the XP guest, the boot process hangs and does not reach desktop/login screen. If the guest is powered off and the usb device filter is removed then the XP guest boots as normal. Activating the usb device after the XP guest is booted and running can cause a variety of issues, lag and explorer.exe crashes but the external usb device is available to the guest OS. When attempting a file transfer of a 1gb file, the copy process takes about 10 minutes and is extremely slow. The copy completes and the file is accessible on the external storage device but the guest OS and any other guest OS's running simultaneously are subject to lag, unresponsiveness, and lockups. After completing one copy in XP guest, the Linux guest (without a usb device connected) locked up and the XP guest was slow but responsive. The virtualbox service subsequently crashed on the host. Both guests and host virtualbox service operate as expected when usb filters are removed from the machine configurations and attempts to mount usb devices to the guests are not made.
I tried uninstalling, rebooting, reinstalling, rebooting virtualbox 3.2.6 to make sure the proper host side drivers were being installed. Both guests (XP, and LXDE Fedora 13) have virtualbox additions 3.2.6 installed. The issue persists.

Re: Win 7 x64 host - everything freezes after connecting USB
Has this issue ever been solved? I'm on win 7 64bit host. If I plug in my usb key when virtualbox is not open it works fine.
If I open a guest VM and insert a usb drive into the host the whole machine freezes. Can somebody please help me?
running 4.1.8

Re: Win 7 x64 host - everything freezes after connecting USB
I'm still experiencing this issue running 4.1.10 version of VirtualBox on a Windows 7 64bit machine, emulating Windows XP SP3. I have an Exponent DJ board that anytime I attempt to connect the USB device in VirtualBox, the entire program freezes, and I have to reboot my entire Windows 7 machine.
Attempting to roll VirtualBox back to 3.0.6 to see if it will work there instead.
