(not the normal) USB don't work!!

Hi folks
I run Ubuntu 9.1 and VirtualBox 3.0.12... Guest is XP
My usb works ok (in a manner!).
I can see my flash card reader (and axcess the pictures) ex.
virtualBox sees all my USB devices and I can mark them BUT some how on some devices the "datastream" don't come through to the virtual host.
I have that issue with a microscopecamera; a HD and a Omnikey cardreader...... XP sees the camera/cardreader (ask for driver etc!) and all seems ok; but info from the cardreader (a login for a bank account) and the pictures from the camera never come through....
Some years ago on a Mandrake (and VMware) i had the problem that the host had to have the USB service shut down.....
Can it be the same here when I can see some but not all USB datastream ????? (and can't remember how I did it; and that was on a "red hat" system)
