Running a VDI from a RAMDisk
Recently I had the notion to try gutting a WindowsXP guest and running it in a ramdisk. I got my XP VDI down to around 800MB and moved it to my 1GB RAMDisk. Essentially I wanted to see if it would start and run instantly. But it ran no faster than it did from my 320GB WD SATA2 drive. I know there are controller emulations in use, but I wondered if there was a way for me to take advantage of a 3000MB/s RAMDisk? Any ideas?

Re: Running a VDI from a RAMDisk
Did you try to enable SATA controller in Hard Disk settings and configuring VDI image in ramdisk as SATA Disk? Maybe SATA (or SCSI?) emulation allows faster access to emulated hd than ide. I can't test because I don't have so much ram. Of course XP installation must have SATA drivers installed.
