First run wizard won't start
I created my virtual hard disk, but when I double click on it, the first run wizard doesn't start.
Instead it shows the virtualbox boot screen, then a linux mint screen comes up that says, "automatic boot in 9 seconds." When the countdown is over it says, "loading", but nothing happens. I wait, and wait, but the hard drive isn't running the disk; nothing. What's wrong?
(I'm running off the Virtualbox 3.0.12.)

Well, what did you do, what did you set and what did you mount in the Guest? Please give more information, as per Forum Posting Guide.

Re: First run wizard won't start
I am trying to install Linux Mint using virtualbox. I created a new virtual machine. From the settings tab I set it to boot from the Linux Mint CD. Now can anyone tell me why the First Run Wizard won't start? Is it still included in virtualbox?

What first run wizard? You mean the one you get to create a machine? Just hit the New button.

AFTER you create the virtual machine; when you run it for the FIRST time, the First run wizard comes up prompting you to install a new OS.

Re: First run wizard won't start
Which version did you install? I get the wizard they show in the video, but I have the beta installed from 3.1.0 (beta 2). It's probably something new, only available in 3.1.0+

Re: First run wizard won't start
I installed the 3.0.12 from the virtual box website. I thought that WAS the most up to date version. Where did you get the 3.1?

Re: First run wizard won't start
I searched the forums, but couldn't find anything relating to my problem. (I searched the virtual box contents for "first run wizard" ans found it was created for the 1.4 version. So that still doesn't explain why it's not working for my 3.0.12)

Re: First run wizard won't start
Like I told you, it's probably a 3.1 feature. There is a beta forum you know.

Re: First run wizard won't start
Thank you. But search the options of your virtual box yourself and you'll see that first run wizard was first created for the 1.4 version.
By the way, I downloaded and installed the 3.1 version while I was waiting, and I still got the same problem. So how do you install without the first run wizard?

Re: First run wizard won't start
No idea, this is the first time I've seen it. I've used VB since 1.5.4 or 1.5.6 and haven't seen the first run wizard until you said there was one. Or I simply can't remember.

Re: First run wizard won't start
All the first run wizard does is attach a CD or DVD to the VM so that it can boot from that CD/DVD. Afterwards, I guess it might remove the CD/DVD but I don't know.
Most people attach the CD/DVD manually themselves, which is what I recommend you do.
See section 3.3 of the user manual, the paragraph starting: 'For now, if you have just created an empty VM...'
After you have installed the OS, go into the setting again and disable 'Mount CD/DVD Drive'.
If you really, really want to get the first run wizard back, you need to run a command at the command line (or edit the machine xml file).... you need to specify the full path to VBoxManage, or run the command in the VirtualBox install folder.
