Hello,
I'm running VB 3.0.12 on Win7 x64, with a gentoo guest and host-only networking doesn't seem to work.
BEFORE I start the VM, the VBox host-only adapter shows correctly that it's got an IP of 192.168.56.1 (HOST).
I can also ping 192.168.56.1 from the HOST fine.
AFTER I start the VM, the DHCP server will correctly give the GUEST HOSTan IP of 192.168.56.101
However, the HOST's ipconfig now shows:
Ethernet adapter VirtualBox Host-Only Network:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet Adapter
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 08-00-27-00-04-D9
DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
Autoconfiguration IPv4 Address. . : 169.254.75.251(Preferred)
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.56.1(Duplicate)
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :
NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Enabled
I can no longer ping 192.168.56.1 neither from the HOST nor the GUEST. I'm not sure what the Duplicate flag is but I've got no other local network interfaces.
Any ideas what's causing this?

Re: Host-only networking not working on Windows 7 host
I putting my money on the fact that you can ping the host-only address before you start the vm as the indicator of the problem.
It sounds like you have another host-only or private address range DHCP server running, probably the Windows 7. Not really sure.
You can actually change the range of the VBox Host-Only adapter in the preference -> network setting and this should stop the duplicate address business.

That would be really bizarre given that Internet Connection Sharing is not enabled but... I'll try it, see what happens. I'll report back.Perryg wrote:I putting my money on the fact that you can ping the host-only address before you start the vm as the indicator of the problem.
