How easy is it to remove a guest operating system?

And if I do, will I get back the partition of my hard drive that it was on?

It is easier to simply delete the vm and the virtual hard disk.

You do not get a partition back because you have not been using one. You do not install the OS for the vm in a partition of your hard drive. You install it in a virtual hard disk, which is simply a file on your HDD (in whatever partition you choose to store it).

And to remove the VM, you simply right click it, then select remove. The VDI won't be removed because it could be attached to other VMs or you want to use it for a new VM. To remove the VDI too, simply open the Media Manager (File > Media Manager) and remove it from there. It asks if you want to unregister the image, then ask you to remove the file from the hard drive too.
