Why wont downloaded exe files execute?

I am new to VBx and so far I like it a lot. That said, with my WinXP SP3 VM running I am trying to execute (start/run/browse/run) several programs that I've downloaded into a windows share on a NAS drive. Nothing happens. I even went into Linux and set the permissions to a+x on these files.
I can't find any reference in this site.

Anyone run into this before? How did you overcome it? :?:

Thanks

Maybe some network security at work on your system. Some installers don't play nice when ran from a network location too. Copying the file to the local hard drive (in the VM) makes it work right? What zone is the NAS in (you can see that in the status bar of Windows Explorer, should be something like Intranet or Internet).

In WinXP SP3 with some actualizations have now been implemented advanced security for downloaded files (as on Windows Server 2003). These files may not simply run at first time. You must open File Preferences and here has maybe exist another button, that unlock this executable file.
