I have several hosts that I want to connect with each other without acces to the outside world. So all hosts use host-only networking. One of the hosts provides PXE and DHCP, so I went to File -> Preferences -> Network and edited the settings for the host-only networking. In the tab of the DHCP Server I disabled the DHCP server. Then I started my management server (fixed IP address in the proper range), configured DHCP with a range outside the default range for host-only and started one of the client hosts. PXE went well and the OS was installed. When the new host requested an IP-address, it was served with an address from the builtin DHCP server. Then I created a new host-only network, left it's DHCP server disabled and migrated all hosts to the new network. After starting the management server I was able to load the other hosts with PXE and they were all served with an address from the range of my management server. It seems that the DHCP server of the default host-only network cannot be disabled.
It appears that a reboot of the host system is required to disable the DHCP server of the default host-only network.
Cannot disable DHCP for default host-only network (resolved)

Re: Cannot disable DHCP for default host-only network
Strange. When you check the settings, does it still say it's disabled or not? I just disabled the DHCP server on my system and it stayed off.

Re: Cannot disable DHCP for default host-only network
The settings still indicate that the DHCP server is disabled. However, the serviced IP address can only originate from the DHCP server of the default host-only network. When I created another host-only network and migrated the hosts, disabling the corresponding DHCP server had the expected result. The default host-only network behaves differently.
