Ubuntu can't boot after install Guest Add Ons
Ubuntu 9.10 installs and runs under VirtualBox 3.0.10 r54097 on my laptop. When I install the Guest Add Ons, it completes successfully and reboots. Ubuntu can't boot, and stays at the Ubuntu logo with spotlight on it where the startup sound is played. On my desktop the Guest Add Ons works fine. What debugging data can I provide? I'd really like to use the higher video resolutions.

Start with the guests log file.
VBox main program and under machine, show log.
Attach it here do not copy and paste.

Try to disable the 3D effects in the guest settings and see if it will boot up.

That worked! Should Display resolutions be 640x480, 800x600, and whatever I resize the window to?
Any idea why 3D acceleration works on my desktop but not on my laptop?

Log shows you having an Intel graphics card and some of those models were not compatible. I am not sure yet where yours stands but figured it would be a place to start.
With the GA installed you will (should) be able to use the mouse drag to set the screen size to what ever you need or you can use the host+F toggle to go full screen and out.
Test this and let me know what happens.
Host key is the right Ctrl key

Re: Ubuntu can't boot after install Guest Add Ons
Ctrl-F works to enter and exit full screen. However, I get this popup on the desktop that says something about CRTC 56 configuration sync. I can't get the window to appear any more, so can't write down the exact text. Thanks for the quick help! VirtualBox seems to work better than VirtualPC 2007. I don't have a Windows7 system, so I don't know if Microsoft's new VirtualPC for Windows7 works better.

Yeah the popup is the new Ubuntu thing. Not sure what it is for but it has nothing to do with the actual way it runs. I get it too when I go back to normal from seamless.
You might want to try seamless. (Host+L is the toggle) I run Ubuntu 24/7 on Vista Business in that mode and have the best of Windows and Linux all the time.
Heads up you need to click once on the Ubuntu bar at the top before you can toggle back out of seamless if you have done anything in Windows. It needs to grab focus.
