Installation on XP Hangs

I'm running XP Pro 2002/SP3 on a virtually new Dell Latitude laptop. Installing VB 3.0.10, the progress bar hangs about halfway through. I waited 5-10 min, still nothing. Task Manager showed no activity so I killed it.

Any way to know what's going on? Is simply trying it again safe?

Same here. This is a recurring, almost systematic problem for me.

I tried twice in the past few weeks, at every update (.10 and .12) but it always fails. The last times I succeeded, I would generally have 1 or 2 failures before succeeding.

Someone recommended installing by using "Run as..." with the administrator account, same result.

Is there an installation log I can use to at least find out where it fails?

Yep going through the same thing. I was prompted several times by Windows XP to let me know that VB 3.0.12 hasn't been tested for compatibility, all of which I clicked continue for and then the install just kind of stopped. I forced a stop and tried VB and it seemed to launch but when I tried to create a VM, it would blow up.

Specs:
Windows XP w/ SP3 with the most current patches applied.

A couple workarounds that can turn up useful if rebooting does not help. Actually rebooting is not really an option. For me the installer disables the network connection and I cannot re-enable it manually so I have to reboot if the install fails.

But the issue remains that this is a recurring problem, in the last 5+ versions of VB for me. I made a complete re-install, before or around 3.0.6 I think, no difference.
