Starting a VM automatically

Hi,

I have virtualbox install on one of my machines. I would like to be able to remotely start a VM on this machine when the activity is low.
Can I do this using the SDK ? I mean I would like to be able to monitor the activity on the machine using the SDK - starting the VM should not be a problem even though I have never done it
Is there any Open Source tool doing this ?
