USB Devices.

Post by wick3dways »

Hello, I have a problem with this software. Basically I want to be able to use USB devices such as a flash memory stick or a wireless dongle on my virtual machine. There is a specific reason for this so I cant just share an internet connection with my PC or network and file share between the computers. Whenever i press devices > [USB device i want to use] I get the error: Failed to attach the USB device "devicename" to the virtual machine "machinename" USB device "devicename" with UUID "UUIDhere" is busy with a previous request. Please try again later.

Every single USB device always has the status of busy, even if i have used safely remove hardware on my physical PC and stopped the device. How can I use USB devices on my virtual PC? (windows vista host and xp guest)

Thanks in advanced, Dylan.

Reading the error message, there must obviously be something accessing the USB devices (or active in the background, just waiting to "jump" on your devices the moment they get plugged in), i.e. a driver or program. Try to find that and turn it off. Check your Autostart folder and if that doesn't show you anything, you can download autoruns from Sysinternals. Important would be not to delete the entries shown to you by autoruns, just remove the check mark. If all that doesn't help, I can only suggest searching this forum. I don't use Vista, so I can't tell you if the problem lies there in.

I can tell you (I do use Vista) that the problem is there and very difficult to use.
The scenario that I have found works but only after it crashes the VBoxsvc the first time and then you can start over. It will continue to work until the next reboot of the host and then it fails again until I go through the entire process.

You can see the Bug report and add yourself to the ticket here

http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/3895

Be sure to include your log file and a complete description of the errors

Read the process in the ticket at the top to enable short term use of USB

Hello,

with any release of virtualboc i have always the same problem

if i plug an usb key for example
then attempt to allocate it to my linux guest

1) for the first time driver automaticaly install but after
2) device is not attached
3)if i attempt to re attach it i have a busy message indicating that device is already allocated

the only workaround is

1) hibernate the guest
2) reboot my vista
3) after resuming guest attach of usb key is ok

i must restart this process for every usb device i want to use !!!!!!
