Installing Nokia phone software

Hi all,
I have been trying to install the Nokia software that came with my 5800 ExpressMusic phone into a Win XP guest running on a Win XP host under VB 3.0.6, with the additions installed.
When I insert the supplied Nokia CD, the install starts in the host instead of the guest. How do I prevent that happening when a guest is running?
Secondly, if I instead manually start the install from Windows Explorer in the guest, at some point in the process, it wants me to attach the phone to the laptop via the USB cable. When I do this, the host machine detects the device rather than the guest.
My guess is that the above behaviour would also occur when I try to install / attach my TomTom device etc.
Any advice on how to work around this?
